Learning foreign languages is not just a trend, it has become a necessity since more and more people need to know languages in order to be able to communicate with more people around not just around them but also around the world. Most language learners learn around the world prefer to learn languages abroad to become fully immersed in the language that they are learning. If you were given a chance to be part of a foreign language immersion program, you would want to try it right?

A foreign language immersion program is a program where students are placed in an environment either in a classroom or a place in which the target foreign language is the only language used in the environment. Language immersion can happen in a local setting that has a concentrated number of speakers of the target language or it could take place in a city or country where the language is the main language of the population!

Language immersion is said to have originated from Canada over forty years ago and today, according to Walker and Tedick (2000), it is used as a language educational program model for a variety of purposes and across a wide range of cultural, social, and political contexts. Since its early beginnings, language immersion has been used not only to teach foreign languages but is also used to preserve almost extinct languages and to teach the language of a colonizer.

The Direct Method, which is also known as the Natural Method, is the template of foreign language immersion. The method was developed in the late 19th century and is based on the idea that a language learner learns his or her native language without being formally taught and can therefore learn his or her target foreign language in the same way. Foreign language immersion programs have gained popularity not only through the Direct Method but also with the fact that many people would love to be immersed in their target languages and also in the culture where those languages originated from.

Does foreign language immersion have its advantages and disadvantages? Yes, every language program has its own good and bad points depending on how language learners see it.

The following are some of the advantages:

Only the target foreign language is spoken in the immersion environment thus, language learners are forced to communicate only in the target language

Foreign language immersion allows students to see different cultures in different ways

Immersion allows language learners to learn the languages as naturally as possible.

The following could be some disadvantages of foreign language immersion:

Language learners may not understand the instructions in the target foreign language and it may be difficult to detect if the lack of understanding is due to not understanding the target language or if they could not understand the concept even if it is explained in their native tongue.

Putting emphasis on speaking the target language comes at the expense of language rules such as grammar and the total development may come to a standstill if the other language skills such as listening, reading and writing are not developed.

Foreign language immersion is deemed effective by some who have tried it yet the program may not be applicable for everyone since each person has a unique learning style. However, if you do wish to try it, better search for programs that allow you to be fully immersed in the foreign language that you are learning!

<img src="http://i26.tinypic.com/357gb4m.jpg" alt="Learning Languages" title="language exchange"/ style="float:left;margin:3px"/>Learning foreign languages is considered to be enjoyable and interesting for most people whose lives have changed since they used foreign languages in their lives. There are so many ways in learning foreign languages. Learning languages abroad is one of the best options since it allows total language immersion in the environment where the language is spoken as a native language by the local folk. Other ways to learn languages are: learning in a local language school, learning online through organized language programs, and self-learning methods.

Another way to learn foreign languages is through language exchange. Language exchange is the method used when two or more people who speak different languages learn and practice each other’s language. Each person involved in a language exchange partnership or group speaks his or her native tongue in order to teach the other learners then in turn the other learners will speak their native language for the others to learn. One basic example of a language exchange partnership is an English speaker learning Spanish is paired with a Spanish speaker who is learning English. Part of the challenge in language exchange is befriending native speakers of your target languages.

Participating in a language exchange community is one of the ways to learn and practice your target language. There could be language exchange groups in your local community or you can go online and find more groups from different parts of the world. Online language exchange can be done through conversations exchange through Skype or other free online calling services, text chat through instant messengers, and email correspondence.

A conversation exchange within your local community will involve you communicating with native speakers of your target language who live in your area. Being able to interact naturally with native speakers will allow you to hear how words are supposed to be pronounced. You will also have the opportunity to meet new friends who you can learn a new language from and you can teach your native language to.

Sharing language correspondence with a pen pal allows you to improve your reading and writing skills in your target language. It will allow you to practice your grammatical and spelling skills. You can exchange messages online with your pen pal by email or through snail mail. Nowadays, faster and more economical email is preferred compared to snail mail.

Text and voice chat with a language exchange partner allows you to practice your foreign language skills in reading, listening, writing, and speaking. You can use Skype, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger or other instant messengers for this type of language exchange.

Language exchange allows you to have the right kind of practice for your language skills. It is more effective than other language learning methods since you will be communicating with a native speaker. It also allows you to learn your target language at the pace you and your language exchange partner agree on. So what are you waiting for? Learn foreign languages through language exchange and pave way to a multilingual new you!

<img src="http://i41.tinypic.com/2jg594g.jpg" alt="Taking Spanish Online Tutorial" title="Taking Spanish Online Tutorial"/ style="float:right;margin:3px"/>Today, foreign language lessons especially Spanish, are granted by several educational institutes and many of which can be obtained online. There are a variety of choices to learn the Spanish language online. If you are a beginner, well you can always begin with talking to a number of tutors and discover what particular features they have to bargain for online students. Make certain that they can offer not only the flexible time, but the individual attention also. A fine institution will follow your improvement regularly and will constantly be updating you with your Spanish tutorials. Always make sure you are making the most of these elements since it will effectively aid you with your learning of the Spanish language.

Studying Spanish online is easy and fun. The programs available on the internet ensure that you will get the hang of the language you are studying in a short amount of time. However, your progress will largely depend upon your interest, willingness and dedication. How you manage with these traits will reflect your gradual development and accomplishment levels. The programs will generally teach your Spanish lessons in a more methodical way. Apparently, the opening chapters would be centered to the language basics. As you earn your experience, you would be preparing to handle the advanced chapters, and eventually the general review to check your outstanding assimilation. But in the process of learning you will be aided with several downloadable forms as effective tools for your Spanish tutorial online.

The courses that one can normally expect from Spanish lessons are collectively interactive. You will learn Spanish word for word by contexts and together with other words, thus creating a sentence or a phrase. Learning online will not only guarantee you understanding different set of words, but also trains you how to communicate and speak the beautiful language. Moreover, studying at the comfort of your home will let you manage your schedule and get started with the program in the most convenient time. Having done with the procedures, you should be ready to communicate in Spanish and perhaps any other foreign languages you would like to learn as well. The key to your success is perseverance and practice. But the best thing about it is that learning Spanish online will barely cost anything.

<img src="http://i64.servimg.com/u/f64/11/74/66/71/the_ea10.jpg" alt="The Easiest Way to Learn Spanish" title="The Easiest Way to Learn Spanish" / style="float:left;margin:3px"/>Spanish is not among the most difficult languages to learn, but it is among one of the most time-consuming languages to learn in the process. Nevertheless, it bequeaths parallel benefits and a sense of personal accomplishment. A bilingual or multilingual person always gets good opportunities for personal and career growth. He/she has far better chances and will be furnished with better success compared to a person who is only monolingual. Anyway, the reason why this article is about the easiest way to learn Spanish is because unlike German or French, you can learn Spanish in your own time. The Spanish intonation is as easy as you read it. Unlike other foreign languages that actually sound differently from the way you can recite it. Also, with the availability of language software nowadays that aids you better in learning another language makes the whole job a lot easier. It can help you with all the important dynamics of learning a foreign language. Supporting audios will aid you in hearing the sound of words in its exact resonance and other instructions essential for learning the language. This will save you plenty of hour’s time spent for learning when you utilize language software to help you learn Spanish. However, time is of the essence. You have to allocate enough time possible in your day to day agenda to be appropriated for your language study. And as you do, practice independently and communicate dependently with people whenever you can.

Anyway, why you are trying to learn Spanish the easiest way has something to do with your determining purposes. For instance, maybe you are planning to travel to Spain or will likely be traveling to the country in the near future, with that in mind it is only probable that you are inclined to learn the basics of the Spanish language so that you can communicate easily and find your way around the country confidently. The support of language software which are largely available both in the market and Internet today, will serve you better off. You are fine on your own even with single self-taught audios that can teach you greatly the fundamentals of the Spanish language. Otherwise you might like to consider taking language learning courses in colleges and universities, instead.

<img src="http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/11/74/66/71/langua13.jpg" alt="The Fine Art of Learning a Foreign Language
" title="The Fine Art of Learning a Foreign Language" / style="float:left;margin:3px"/>According to aesthetic principles, art is the quality, production, expression, or realm, of what is beautiful and appealing, of what is more than an ordinary significance. If you appreciate the aesthetic beauty of art, you will also appreciate the wonders of a foreign language.

We come into learning languages by stages. At a young age we learn words, then we learn to express our ideas into sentences, and later on we learn how to build the fundamentals of words and sentences to make our ideas so we can communicate and be able to interact. When we think about it, the process of how we come up with the learning is not only interesting, but in a way mysterious. You don’t learn it one step of the way and two steps on the next stage. It’s a fact that we go through the level stages, but how we are thoroughly able to captivate the language we cannot really say. I believe it is not on how we are thought that we learn, but more on how we come to live with it.

The art of learning a foreign language is living in its environment. It is leading your self to the foreign place and living in the environment made up of people who made their way through life speaking the language that they know very well. For example, if you went to Argentina and rented out some Buenos Aires apartments, and got used to the culture and practiced speaking with the locals. We should be able to communicate and interact. If you can imagine, it is hard to have communication and interaction if people do not understand us. And it is harder to live in a place you find different, but that is how you can learn. It is the best way to really learn a foreign language. Know that you cannot really learn beyond a boundary, regardless of your nature. Even if you are born Spaniard, but grew up in the USA I doubt you will acquire the learning of your native tongue if the environment that you have come to live with does not speak it, and vice versa. The fine art of learning a foreign tongue is in how you place your self proportional to its place.

And remember how communication is everything! No matter if it’s playing pokern with German friends or some Spanish card game, if you are talking whilst you play, you’ll be learning without even realising and what is more, having fun!

<img src="http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/11/74/66/71/learni11.jpg" alt="Learning a Foreign Language at a Young Age" title="Learning a Foreign Language at a Young Age" / style="float:left;margin:3px"/>Learning a foreign language is one of the most popular educational ventures young students and adults engage in. Learning a foreign language has its benefits— it enables the person to communicate with more people in more ways than one; and it helps open doors to various opportunities a monolingual person may not have.

Most of the people who study foreign languages are either teenagers in junior high school, college students or adults who want to improve themselves. Nowadays, foreign language learning is already offered to the younger end of the spectrum—to younger children ideally toddlers between 3-5 years old with their parents choosing one to one English classes for them so they have a head start when they get to school!

Many experts have already acknowledged that it is ideal that children learn a language earlier since they can absorb up to 5 or more languages at a time. Young children’s brains have the ability to catalog languages, with that they will not be inhibited in developing their skills in their native tongue. Unlike adults and older children who most likely learn a foreign language by learning the basic rules of grammar, practicing carefully and thinking critically; young children simply develop their language skills through instinct just like what they do when they develop their native language.

Supporting facts published and transmitted in different types of media such as articles, academic journals, television shows and newspapers have stated the significant benefits of learning a foreign language while still at a young age. These reports are encouraging parents and families to let their young children be exposed to a foreign language as early as possible since it will be easier for young children to pick up the unique sounds of the language. A study also found out that children can learn to understand new words in two different languages at an amazing fast rate.

Studies have shown that children as young as 2 years old are able to practice code switching in different languages. Code switching is the ability to switch backward and forward between languages and is sometimes referred as a sign of mastery of different linguistic systems. Studies also show that children who have started learning a foreign language at a young age and continue to pursue it as they grow older will have better chances of becoming adept in the foreign language.

So what are you waiting for? If you are a parent, relative or caregiver of a young child, better look for opportunities to have the youngster develop foreign language skills while the child’s mind is still fresh, inquisitive and interested.

Teenagers can carrying on learning now thanks to the internet - by interacting online! This could be learning French by playing casino en ligne or by learning Spanish on a chat site; whatever way you do it, it’s sure to be fun!

How can we speak without any words that come from our mouth? Well if we wanted to study our own languages and after that if we still want to know more about different languages then it’s a good idea for us. A foreign language aside from English language is a very interesting to learn since you will experience all the methods of a certain language. Like the Spanish language, it is a second common language which American people in United State use for there daily verbal communication. This is a language that sounds very interesting to study since it is very different from all languages we have. But don’t you know that Latin or Spanish language before is common language where Filipino people used for their daily communication? Yes it is true; in the past years Spanish people colonized the country of Philippines, and Spanish people are the first who discover the island of Philippines. And then after that Spanish decided to stay in the country for 333 years, and made a decision to educate native Filipino people about the Spanish\Latin language and other languages.. A language which Spanish taught for Filipino is their own language which we called it Latin a romance language. They educate Filipino people the accurate used of Latin language and also how to make a good life. And until now Filipino people still adapted some methods of living as well as the language which the Spaniards taught them.

Spanish language is a common dialect which most American uses for their second verbal language, because most Mexican people are now in United States for a reason that they decided to live permanently in this country. American government is now then deciding to teach Latin language in every school in America. Latin language is not difficult to learn with help and with our best effort we will be able to learn the correct Latin language. If you want to hear Latin words spoken by a native then try to visit the wonderful country of Spain. At first you will think that Latin is difficult to deliver in terms of communication but the truth is to learn Latin words is just like you are studying your own language.

Most of European countries are using the Spanish words. Spain is not a very huge country to explore but they own wonderful places which is one of the most visited tourist destination of all Europe. And a lot of American tourist are interested to visit the country of Spain for their summer vacation and at the same time learn the Latin words which is the Spanish people used for their daily communication. If you are one of those interested to learn then try to enroll in any Spanish school or online Spanish language. But before you decide make some research at any online Spanish language school so that you can choose the best school for you.

<img src="http://i27.servimg.com/u/f27/11/74/66/71/homesc10.jpg" alt="Home Schooling in English" title="Home Schooling in English" / style="float:right;margin:3px"/>HERE in Spain, high school students are encouraged to learn a second language to be competitive in the regional world of Europe and the far wider scope of the globe in general. Spain, being a country with very diverse ethnicities, has its own share of dialects such as Castilian, Catalan and Basque to name a few. The Moroccan-Spanish here are also able to speak Moroccan and French. In the inland city of Salamanca, there are quite a few people who speak American English while in the coastal Mediterranean cities as well as in such islands as Las Palmas and Tenerife in the Canary archipelago and Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca here close to home, there are a few people who can speak British English and understand some Dutch or German. Other than that, especially in cities such as Madrid and Barcelona and a few rural regions like Garabandal, only mainstream Spanish is understood by the majority of the population.

How to rectify this anomaly? There is one such very unconventional answer – Internet and cable television. During the 1960s when Francisco Franco brought progress to Spain, a nationalistic fervor swept the nation. Then, people still believed that the Spanish are a supreme race and they did not like to learn another language. But with the onset of globalization at the end of the millennium also thankfully came cable television. Even to this day where majority of the stations in a cable network are dedicated solely to Spanish sports such as the battle between Real Madrid and the team from Almeria for example, cable channels from the United States and Britain have already invaded our home so to speak. If you do not want to churn out the extra time or the extra amount for tuition to acquire English at a conventional language school, then do it at home at no extra cost. Just watch English language programs the whole free time that you have. In summer, you can do it the whole two months but during school days, you still can though during weekends.

I’m flicking channels as of the moment so you’ll know what to learn. If you have a fair command of the English language at school where it is compulsory, then switching English channels serves as complement to your English education in school. I’m watching Sogecable as I’m writing and the first channel that I click is Nickelodeon. Right now, they’re showing the video of Vanesssa Hudgens’s latest track, Come Back to Me. And while watching these English programs, why not log on to the Internet as well? Search for the lyric of Vanessa Hudgens’s Come Back to Me and try to understand what message the character in the song is trying to send. If you have done so already, go back to your television remote and switch to the next channel. According to my cable decoder, the next English station after Nickelodeon is Bloomberg. Bloomberg is a television station dedicated to economic analysis and this is a good station to watch if you are planning to take up a degree in economics in college.

Other ideas for language learning are to involve yourself in online communities. You should pick a hobby which interests you and so you are motivated to go to the site and interact with its users. An example could be a poker online forum a cookery chat room - it’s a fun and interesting way to learn a language, much more so than grammar books!

Actually here in Salamanca, people here speak several languages aside from Spanish and the usual regional dialects. Of course, Salamanca is home to the pure unadulterated Castilian dialect which comprises the bulk of the Spanish language just like Tagalog comprises the bulk of the Filipino language and Nippongo comprises the bulk of the Japanese language. Yet people in Salamanca still desire to learn English with both accents (the rhotic and the non-rhotic) because there are a lot of English-speaking tourists here. The normal tourists come from Britain and they of course are the non-rhotic accented English speakers. But in 2007, a lot of Americans including such stars as Sigourney Weaver, Matthew Fox, William Hurt, Dennis Quaid and Zoe Saldana converge to Salamanca to shoot the movie Vantage Point. Of course, these American actors speak the English language with the rhotic accent, which is the letter r is pronounced. Aside from English, people here in Salamanca especially those working in the hospitality industry also manage to know a little bit of Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Icelandic and German because most of the non-English visitors and expats in this city come from countries where the aforementioned languages are used. Also, Portuguese is widely learned in Salamanca of course because it is used in their neighboring country which shares location in the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal.

In the United States, if you are a Hispanic, you are lucky because you will be learning two languages – Spanish and English. If you are from New England, you may be compelled to learn both the rhotic and non-rhotic form of English because New England is the only place in the United States where the non-rhotic form of English is used. In New Orleans, majority of the people speak French but to conform to the rest of the population in the United States, people again need to learn English. Offshore in Hawaii is a diverse population. Most people speak Hawaiian, however there are people there who are Japanese-Americans and who speak Niponggo as well as Filipino-Americans who speak Tagalog. But these diverse groups of people must still need to learn English which is the most widely used language in their nation. On the other hand in Canada, half of the population speaks English while the other half speaks French. The English-speaking population needs to learn French while the French-speaking population needs to speak English.

Now let’s discuss the etymology of each country in the world as well as the etymology of the languages therein. For instance, the Spanish language is a Romance language because it originated in Rome. But Roman in turn is influenced by two ancient European languages, Frankish and Germanic which become precursors to the present day German language. The English language used in Britain and in the United States across the Atlantic is likewise a Romance language. And so is French and German.

ONE of the most exhilarating adventures you can have this Christmas is learning a second language. If you come from Spain, then a two-week crash course in any of the other dialects in Spain will do. For example, you may want to learn Catalan or Basque. Or maybe you want to learn the language of the people in neighboring Portugal which is still located in the same Iberian Peninsula though where Spain is situated. Or maybe you can learn British English. There are a lot of English language schools splashed along the Mediterranean coastline in Spain. Other languages that you may want to enroll in are Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish or Swedish. People who speak these languages are the main visitors of Spain and they often ply through the Mediterranean areas such as Costa Blanca or Costa del Sol because they own nudist beaches there.

On the other hand, the more conservative ones are the British so there are also lots of English language schools in this eastern and southern part of Spain. In any course about these languages, it is divided into three stages – basic, intermediate and advanced. The duration of each stage is equivalent to one semester. But there are also two-week crash courses that I’ve mentioned earlier. During the first day of school, a student is asked to write down an essay. After that, he or she is compelled to recite the essay in front. Now, British English is interesting to learn because it does not have any r. But the most flattering of all non-r accents is the Australian accent. So if you want to embark on a two-week vacation to Australia, then you can definitely learn English there if you already have a friend there to stay home with and to patiently teach you a few words in English as well as tour you around and let you taste native Australian delicacies.

But if you want to learn American English the way you hear them on C-SPAN, then how about enrolling yourself in any of the language schools in the United States? If you want your life to be more convenient back here in Spain, you can enroll online anyway. An online course is only less expensive than a traditional classroom-type of instruction as far as second language acquisition is concerned because there are no laboratory and other miscellaneous fees involved. Besides, you don’t have to follow a routine in going to school online. You only need to log in and after completing the tasks for the day, you are good to go and resume your routinary work. Besides, in an online school, you don’t expend for the transportation in going to school and back as well as the snacks and meals in between that you have to spend.

The existence of English language schools is not an exclusive phenomenon among the countries that are mentioned earlier though. Even in countries such as the Philippines, there are lots of English language schools there because the Philippines is a country whose inhabitants speak English as a second language. They are fluent in English here that they are even outsourced by Fortune 500 companies to do customer service and technical support for them over the phone. There are also lots of English language schools in India because it’s a former British colony. And because of that, English there is British English which has a non-r accent.
