Acquiring a European Language
EUROPE is such a unique continent. First, it is the smallest continent in the world and it is contiguous. Despite being a contiguous and a small continent, Europe is inhabited by peoples who speak a variation of languages. These languages are originally Germanic in origin and when Rome conquered it, these languages later had an influence in Rome. Thus, we can deduce that the Germanic languages in Europe are called Romantic languages because they come from Rome. Among its many variations are Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, English, Irish, French, German and Dutch, among others.
Recognizing this peculiarity, the European Union has mandated that all high school students must acquire another European language. Thus, Spanish students here must take up another language. The most common language that Spanish students want to learn is English. It is because of the influx of English expatriates and gays in this country. As everybody knows, tourism and real estate are the lifeblood of Spain thanks to its rich culture.
If one wants to teach English at the many English language schools here, then you’ll really have a lucrative profession. It’s so easy to teach English as a second language. All one needs to do is to enroll a total of three academic semesters to do so. The first phase is the beginner’s stage. At this stage, students will have an intensive five-day session a week. In these sessions, students are asked to recite and pass essays – all in English – lengthily.
After the beginner’s stage are the intermediate stage and the advanced stage. After the advanced stage in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), it is now your turn to teach English. And there are lots of English language schools here in Spain, not just in the mainland but other islands encompassing it such as the Balearic and the Canary archipelagoes. As everybody knows, Ibiza and Tenerife are hot tourist spots and teaching there becomes then a mix of business and pleasure.
In England itself, there are lots of language schools. Students who troop to these language institutions are usually sent off by their employers. They may come from Germany, France, the Netherlands or Switzerland. Some of these employers are Fortune 500 companies and they do not care about the costs of these language programs. Studying English in London tends to be costly so if you are on your own, you may go to suburbs such as Northern Ireland.
Another European language worth learning is Italian. Italian is the most direct descendant of the Romantic languages. Romantic is where the word romance comes from. That’s why if you are adept with Italian terms, you will be swooned over by women and they’ll consider you as hot and romantic. Romance and flirting are not just the only reasons why one wants to learn Italian. It is also used if your company has stakes in Italy and you’ll be posted here. Take that as a promotion. Not only will your salary increase, you will also have the opportunity to wander around the nice tourist spots here in Italy and get star-struck.
